Padmasambhava Tibetan gold Thangka

Padmasambhava Thangka — Gold Style

This thangka depicts Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) in traditional Tibetan Buddhist iconographic style, hand-painted on cotton canvas with natural mineral pigments and a significant amount of gold leaf. The composition places Padmasambhava at the center of a mandala arrangement with supporting figures and symbolic elements from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Materials:

• Canvas: Cotton with traditional gesso preparation
• Pigments: Natural mineral pigments — vermilion, ultramarine, malachite, gold — applied in layered washes
• Gold leaf: Extensive gold leaf application on figure robes, mandala elements, and background fields
• Mounting: Traditional silk border; wooden dowels for wall hanging

Visual Description:

Padmasambhava is depicted in the standard form: wearing robes and a lotus crown, holding a vajra and kapala. The surrounding mandala composition includes the key symbolic elements associated with Padmasambhava’s iconographic program. The gold-heavy finish gives the painting a luminous, formal quality.

Suitable For:

Those interested in Padmasambhava imagery, Tibetan Buddhist iconographic art, or gold-leaf heavy thangka painting.

Note: Hand-painted; natural variation in brushwork and gold application is normal.
