Volcanic Stone Mala Beads

This mala is made from volcanic stone beads, hand-strung on durable cord. Volcanic stone — typically basalt or similar — is a dark gray to black material with a naturally rough, porous surface texture. The beads are rounded or barrel-shaped, consistent in size. A guru bead and silk tassel or braided cord finish the strand.

Materials:

• Volcanic stone: Dark gray to black basalt or similar volcanic rock; porous, rough surface texture; each bead shows natural variation in texture and color depth
• Cord: Durable braided cord; ends finished with silk tassel or braided cord
• Guru bead: Single larger bead at the mala terminus

Use:

The beads are used for counting during mantra recitation or meditation practice. The standard count is 108 beads; the guru bead marks the starting and ending point.

Use and Handling:

• Avoid contact with acids or harsh chemicals
• Wipe with a dry cloth; the porous surface can absorb oils and liquids
• Store in a jewelry pouch or mala bag when not in use

Note: Natural volcanic stone varies in texture and exact coloring. Every mala is unique due to the natural material.

Care Instructions

Dzi-style and natural stone beads should be protected from impact, abrasion, and chemical exposure to preserve their polished surfaces and decorative patterns.

• Avoid impact: Remove before sports, heavy work, or activities where beads may strike hard surfaces.
• Keep away from chemicals: Avoid perfume, lotion, alcohol, bleach, and household cleaners.
• Clean gently: Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not soak or use steam or ultrasonic cleaners.
• Protect the cord: Do not stretch elastic or pull knotted cord unnecessarily. Roll bracelets over the hand instead of pulling them open.
• Store separately: Keep in a soft pouch so beads do not knock against metal or harder stones.

Variations in color, line, pattern, and surface texture are normal for natural and individually finished beads.
