Yak Bone Mala Beads

This mala is made from yak bone beads, hand-strung on durable cord. The yak bone has a natural ivory-to-tan coloring with visible grain lines and the slight surface texture variation typical of natural bone. The beads are rounded or barrel-shaped, consistent in size across the strand. A traditional guru bead and silk tassel or braided cord finish the mala.

Materials:

• Yak bone beads: Natural yak bone, cut and polished into rounded or barrel-shaped beads; color ranges from ivory to warm tan; surface shows natural grain and minor imperfections
• Cord: Durable braided or twisted cord; ends finished with silk tassel or braided cord
• Guru bead: Single larger bead at the mala’s terminus

Use:

The beads are used for counting during mantra recitation or meditation practice. The standard count is 108 beads; the guru bead marks the starting and ending point.

Use and Handling:

• Remove before water, perfumes, or harsh chemicals to preserve the bone surface
• Wipe with a dry cloth after use
• Store in a jewelry pouch or mala bag when not in use

• Avoid chemicals: Keep away from perfume, lotion, hairspray, alcohol, household cleaners, and other harsh products.
• Clean gently: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Do not soak or use ultrasonic or steam cleaners.
• Avoid heat and strong sunlight: Prolonged exposure may dry, fade, or alter natural materials.
• Store separately: Keep in a dry pouch or lined box to reduce scratches and contact with harder jewelry.

Natural variation is part of the character of bone and horn; each piece may differ slightly from the photographs.
